Why Snoopy? The Story Behind Our Peanuts Collection
A small beagle with a very big imagination, and the reason he felt completely right for Alex Loves Colour.
Some characters belong to a certain time.
Snoopy has somehow belonged to every generation.
When we began exploring a Peanuts collaboration, recognition alone was not enough. We wanted a character with range. Funny, imaginative, occasionally dramatic and never too polished.
Snoopy made sense immediately.
Why Snoopy.
What we love most about Snoopy is the way he changes the feeling of an ordinary moment.
A doghouse becomes a plane. A typewriter becomes the beginning of the Great American Novel. A quiet afternoon becomes an entire world inside his head.
That way of seeing things feels very close to Alex Loves Colour.
Foil has a serious job to do, but it does not have to disappear into the service. It can make someone smile, start a conversation and give a colourist something they actually enjoy reaching for.
From ordinary dog to anything he wanted to be.
Peanuts first appeared in seven American newspapers on 2 October 1950. Snoopy made his first appearance just two days later.
In those early comic strips, he looked and behaved much more like an ordinary dog. He walked on four legs, played catch and had not yet developed the imagination that would make him one of the world’s most recognised characters.
Over time, Charles M. Schulz allowed Snoopy to become something much bigger.
He danced. He wrote novels. He became Joe Cool, the World War I Flying Ace and more than 100 other personalities.
Not bad for a beagle with a red doghouse.
The beagle who went to the Moon.
Snoopy’s story eventually travelled far beyond the comic page.
During the Apollo 10 mission in 1969, the lunar module was named Snoopy and the command module was named Charlie Brown. NASA still presents the Silver Snoopy Award to people who make an outstanding contribution to human flight safety or mission success.
From a newspaper strip to lunar orbit.
That sense of possibility is part of what has kept Snoopy relevant for more than 75 years. He never stops being Snoopy, no matter where his imagination takes him.
Three designs. Three sides of Snoopy.
We did not want one piece of artwork repeated three different ways. We wanted each foil to carry its own mood.
Smile, Giggle, Laugh is Snoopy at his lightest. A reminder not to take every day too seriously.
Love Stinks is dry, honest and slightly cheeky. The Snoopy who says what everyone else is thinking.
Fly is his imagination in full flight. Looking up, dreaming bigger and refusing to stay ordinary.
Together, the three designs capture what people have always loved about him. He is playful without being sugary, nostalgic without feeling stuck in the past and always completely himself.
Made for colourists.
Behind the artwork, each design is still a professional salon tool.
The collection is made in our Long Wide size, with 300 pre-cut pop-up sheets measuring 15 cm × 35 cm. Designed to keep colour services moving while bringing something unexpected to the chair.
The artwork changes the mood.
The foil still does the work.
We never wanted to create a collector’s box that happened to contain foil. We wanted to create professional foil that people might also want to collect.
Why we chose Snoopy.
After more than 75 years, Snoopy still feels personal.
Some people see childhood. Some see style. Others see comfort, humour or imagination.
We saw a character who could walk into the salon and belong there.
That is why we chose Snoopy.
Celebrate Every Day.
